What is being announced?
Software AG, the global leader in Business Process Excellence, today announced that they have entered into a definitive agreement to acquire Terracotta, the company behind Ehcache.
Will Ehcache remain open source?
Yes. The open source versions of Ehcache will continue to be maintained and advanced.
What about the Apache 2 license?
Ehcache will continue to be released under the Apache 2 license.
How does this impact those that embed Ehcache?
There will be no changes for those embedding or incorporating our open source projects.
What happens to contributor and committer agreements?
Existing contributor and committer agreements will continue.
How does this affect JSR107?
Greg Luck will continue to lead the JSR107 specification process. Terracotta will continue to support this work and plans to implement an update of Ehcache for the revised JSR107. Ehcache is currently the only implementation of the draft specification.
Does Software AG have any other OSS projects?
No. Software AG is excited about gaining a significant open source presence with the acquisition of Terracotta. They will maintain Ehcache, Quartz, and the Terracotta platform as open source technologies. They are committed to further investment in these technologies and preserving these vibrant open source communities.
